Conference Resources

Were you in attendance at the Shoreline, WA WSTA conference?  Maybe the Philadelphia, PA NSTA Regional conference?  Thank you so much for attending!  Here you can find the resources used and given during both conferences. Check back after the conferences for more information and pictures of the presentations!

  • Strategy Notes - These are detailed explanations of the strategies being presented, including on how to implement and also information on what brain research has said about using such strategies.
  • Learning Log - This can be used with students as a way for them to record brief snippets of their learning and connect it to their own lives.  It can also be used as an interactive notebook for student/teacher communication.
  • Comparative Input - This is a copy of our comparative input on GLAD vs Traditional teaching
  • Compare/Contrast Language - During our presentation, we created a Compare/Contrast chart that included a diagonal line across it, from corner to corner.  Along that line. compare/contrast words are used.  These can be any words selected by the teacher, and may include words that students do not use very often, and may not know, such as "conversely".  This document includes many different terms to choose from.
  • ESL Question Stems - When creating accountable talk frames for students, here are some leveled sentence stems that can be used.  By using leveled sentences, all learners will be able to participate.  These can also be used with review the chart during an ELD review for lower learners who may need more scaffolding.
  • Language Function and Sentence Frames - To be used in a similar way as the ESL Question Stems.  The only difference is that, along with being scaffolded per language level, these are also arranged by discussion point, for example, frames that help students create a hypothesis, or summarizing.
